What is Family Counseling?
Family therapy provides an opportunity to receive support in working through disconnection or processing overwhelming events together. This type of therapy can look a lot of different ways and I have found that regardless of what brings a parent, child, caregiver, or teenager, the benefit of having a protected space for difficult conversations is immense.
In the process of moving through life together as a family, we sometimes come up against pressure points that may test our patience, communication styles, and experience of connection to one another.
Challenges within families can emerge from:
Transitioning to new stages of life (such as the birth of a new baby or entering into teenager years)
Abrupt crises that impact all family members (such as death or divorce)
Difficulty communicating with one another or moving past old hurts
How I can help
I utilize a family-systems and attachment theory lens as a backdrop for this work, and I draw from knowledge of growth and development from many years navigating complex conversations between students and families as a school counselor.
I truly love participating in and witnessing the delicate, powerful connections that are fostered between family members as understanding develops and caring is deepened. If you have questions about working together in this capacity, I encourage you to reach out to schedule a consultation. I am happy to talk through the specifics of what therapy might look like for your family.
